The Sony NEX-5N has many favorable reviews, particularly now that the clicking noise during movies has been fixed in the latest versions. It’s not a simple operation when it comes to the menu system, but if you’re in the IA mode or Intelligent Automatic, when you are shooting photos, you’ll get outstanding results, without difficulty.
The camera’s touch screen lets you select a tiny portion of a complex picture. This tiny section you have blown up will be noise free, and have crisp and clean colors. Like older versions, the camera is capable of capturing shadows with little noise in dimly lit indoor scenes. Almost all DSLRs that cost double don’t even do as well. The ability to capture panorama photos is the next extraordinary feature of this camera, as the default setting is left to right horizontally. While it could be a challenge to take, you could hold the camera vertically and sweep right to left or left to right in this mode. In order to make this happen, you need to go into the menu system, after you have chosen panorama from the virtual wheel. You can have excellent panoramic shots with little effort. If you don’t want to spend time stitching photographs together, then the Sony NEX-5N will be well worth it. Going into manual mode by way of the virtual wheel is one of the greatest features of this camera. With this you’ll be able to alter the shutter speed using the mechanical wheel, and by pushing in the lower portion of the wheel will switch to the f/stop. The ISO could be seen next to the f/stop but can be adjusted by going into Brightness/Color in Menu mode. The drawback is with all the flipping back and forth, you find yourself losing the good shot. They need to make it so that it won’t be a requisite to go back to the menu system.
Somewhere in the menu system you’ll find everything you want to do with the NEX-5N, but it might be a sharp learning curve. For most people, they’re going to have the settings realistically work best for them and stick with it. For easy access to settings you use, the camera could be programmed to put that into place. The touch screen navigation is remarkably easy to use despite the camera’s range of features. A few of these are zooming in on images electronically, moving between pictures in image review mode, and when shooting an image, deciding on the object to focus on.
The Sony NEX-5N is an excellent camera and with a firmware update, it will be better still. The camera can be a lot more intuitive and easier to use with just a few changes here and there.
